West Oxfordshire District Council (WODC) started the current financial year with approximately £13.2 million in unspent funds for infrastructure projects, earmarked for Carterton and other
The money, referred to as section 106 funding, is provided by developers to support community and social infrastructure. WODC explained that portions of this £13.2 million are either recently received or will arrive in stages, meaning the funds can only be used once the total allocation has been received. Additionally, some of the money has already been informally earmarked for specific projects that are still in the planning stages and will proceed once finalized.
The council's overview and scrutiny committee is set to review the status and spending of these funds on Wednesday, providing councillors with "greater clarity" on the matter. In a recent example, WODC announced in September that £1 million from section 106 funding would go toward developing a new football pitch at the West Witney Sports Ground.
