British Queen celebrates

London Underground staff, including drivers, are set to strike next month in a dispute over pay and working conditions, according to the ASLEF trade union.

ASLEF, which represents train drivers, announced that a series of walkouts would take place between November 1 and November 16.

"ASLEF members have shown tremendous patience as negotiations have dragged on for months without any meaningful progress," said Finn Brennan, ASLEF's full-time organiser for London Underground. "Unfortunately, it’s clear that management will only take negotiations seriously if there is the threat of strike action."

Transport for London (TfL), which oversees the London Underground and bus networks used by millions daily, expressed disappointment over the strike announcement. They noted that recent discussions had covered pay, terms, and conditions, and that the offer to unions had been improved since talks began. TfL has invited unions to meet again next week in hopes of resolving the dispute. Photo by tompagenet (Tom Page), Wikimedia commons.
