British Queen celebrates

A 12-year-old boy who threw stones at police during riots outside a mosque has become the youngest person to be sentenced in connection with the far-right unrest

that erupted in England this summer.

The boy, whose identity is protected due to his age, had earlier pleaded guilty to a charge of violent disorder in Southport on July 31.

On Tuesday, District Judge Wendy Lloyd sentenced him to a three-month curfew and a 12-month referral order, requiring him to participate in a rehabilitative program.

During sentencing, the judge remarked that the riots had "shaken society to the core." She added, "It was an angry mob, and you chose to be part of it."

The riots in Southport were triggered shortly after a stabbing attack at a local dance class, which left three young girls dead. False rumors circulating online falsely claimed that the suspect in the attack was an asylum-seeker, sparking unrest.

The boy was among hundreds of rioters who set a police van ablaze and attempted to storm the Southport Islamic Society Mosque. The violence quickly spread to other towns and cities across the country, but the unrest subsided following swift arrests and prosecutions of those involved.
