British Queen celebrates

 

The 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings is fast approaching. On June 6, 1944, more than 100,000 Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy to begin the

reconquest of the region. The British Royal Family will take part in events marking this important anniversary.

Commemorations on the eve of the D-Day landings On Wednesday, June 5, the King, Queen and Prince of Wales will travel to Portsmouth for the UK National Commemoration.

King Charles and Queen Camilla will hold memorial services in Portsmouth on the eve of the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings. The Princess Royal and her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, will travel to Normandy.

As Colonel of the Royal Regina Rifles, she will pay tribute to the Royal Regina Rifles of Canada during World War II. They will also attend a reception with the regiment.

On the evening of June 5, the Princess Royal will attend the annual memorial service at Bayeux Cathedral in her capacity as Chair of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.  

On Thursday 6 June, King Charles and Queen Camilla will attend a Royal British Legion Service of Remembrance at the Ministry of Defence. The Prince of Wales will arrive in France on 6 June to attend a Government of Canada Service of Remembrance at the Juno Beach Centre.

He will then meet with more than 25 heads of state from around the world at Omaha Beach for an international Service of Remembrance. The Duke of Gloucester will join the Duchess of Gloucester for a special memorial service at the Royal Albert Hall.

The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester will attend D-Day 80: Remembering the D-Day landings at the Royal Albert Hall on the evening of 6 June. The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh will mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings at the National Memorial Arboretum.
