The Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) has issued correspondence to all social housing landlords, notifying them of recent changes to social housing regulation effective from April 1st, along
with the new standards they are now required to adhere to.
Previously, the regulator outlined its revamped approach to publications, incorporating integrated inspections, periodic information reviews, responsive engagement, judgments, and ratings. This updated strategy aims to place economic and consumer regulation of social housing on equal footing, empowering RSH to foster enhancements in housing quality and services across all landlord entities. Simultaneously, it enables ongoing scrutiny of the financial viability and governance of housing associations and other private registered providers.
In its communication to landlords, RSH emphasized that the new standards take effect from April 1st, underscoring their obligation to identify any significant deficiencies in meeting these standards and rectify them promptly for the benefit of tenants.
Fiona MacGregor, Chief Executive of RSH, remarked:
“Our new powers and approach give us the tools we need to drive sustainable long-term improvement in social housing landlords for the benefit of their tenants. We expect all landlords to deliver quality homes and services for their current and future tenants.”
