Legislation aimed at reinforcing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's asylum policy, which involves deporting asylum seekers to Rwanda, is scheduled to be reconsidered by Parliament on April 15th.
The proposed law seeks to address legal challenges hindering the implementation of Sunak's plan to relocate asylum seekers arriving in the UK via small inflatable boats to Rwanda. Despite the government's intentions, no individuals have been deported to Rwanda due to ongoing legal disputes.
In response to court objections, Sunak's administration is advancing a bill that designates Rwanda as a safe haven for asylum seekers and exempts certain aspects of human rights legislation to prevent further legal hindrances.
Following the House of Lords' decision to reinstate calls for enhanced protections, a process known as "ping pong" ensued, wherein the legislation is shuttled between the House of Commons and the House of Lords until a consensus is reached on the final wording.
