British Queen celebrates

The planned departure of the Royal Navy's HMS Prince of Wales from Portsmouth Naval Base was unexpectedly postponed, causing speculation about the reasons

behind the delay. Scheduled to lead the largest NATO training exercise since the Cold War, the carrier encountered an issue during final checks with the starboard propeller coupling.

This setback follows a similar incident involving its sister ship, HMS Queen Elizabeth, which was forced to cancel its deployment due to a propeller shaft issue. The departure delay of HMS Prince of Wales, valued at £3bn, leaves questions about its readiness for the upcoming NATO exercise and raises concerns about the Royal Navy's operational capabilities.

The precise cause of the delay remains undisclosed, with the Ministry of Defence providing limited information. Despite preparations and heightened security measures at the naval base, the carrier failed to leave the jetty as planned.

Approximately 20 minutes after the scheduled departure time, onlookers at Portsmouth Harbour dispersed upon learning of the delay, reminiscent of HMS Prince of Wales' previous breakdown off the Isle of Wight due to a malfunction in its starboard propeller coupling.

Admiral Lord Alan West, a former First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff, expressed uncertainty regarding the latest delay and emphasized the importance of maintaining operational readiness. He noted the necessity of having two aircraft carriers to mitigate such challenges.

The postponement raises doubts about the Royal Navy's participation in scheduled exercises and its ability to fulfill operational commitments, particularly in the Red Sea region. Lord West suggested potential redirection of HMS Prince of Wales if deemed necessary by the government or allies.

The Royal Navy's efforts to maintain fleet readiness and address operational challenges underscore ongoing concerns about defense capabilities and resource constraints. The Ministry of Defence has yet to confirm the extent of HMS Prince of Wales' involvement in upcoming duties, highlighting uncertainties surrounding future deployments.
