Rishi Sunak's government is encountering challenges not only from current issues and the Labour opposition but also from former and existing Tory party members.
Will Dry, the prime minister's former advisor, recently joined the chorus of voices critical of the No 10 leadership, expressing concerns about the lack of decisive action to overcome significant challenges.
In a statement, Mr. Dry highlighted the colossal challenges facing the country and criticized the perceived shortcomings in addressing them. He pointed to the fundamentally broken political system and forewarned of a looming decade of Labour rule for the Conservatives, with potential extinction if figures like Nigel Farage return.
Now aligned with the Conservative Britain Alliance (CBA), the organization responsible for a poll projecting a substantial election defeat for the Tories, Mr. Dry is not the only notable figure associated with the group. The CBA, described as a group of Conservative donors without a clear organizational identity, has reportedly enlisted support from up to 10 Tory MPs, including prominent figures like Lord David Frost and Simon Clarke.
The CBA gained attention after a YouGov poll it funded predicted a massive majority for Labour in the next general election. Notably, Chancellor Jeremy Hunt and other prominent Tory MPs were projected to lose their seats. The Guardian reports that the CBA, shrouded in secrecy with no web presence and a closed membership, operates independently of the well-known faction groups within the Tory party.
While speculation swirls around the CBA's motives, the group has not provided an official statement regarding its goals. Observers, including Professor Tim Bale, suggest a concerted effort to remove Rishi Sunak from the prime minister's position, raising questions about a potential leadership challenge driven by desperation within the Conservative ranks.
As the political landscape becomes more intricate, the Conservative Britain Alliance remains a mysterious force, with key Tory figures distancing themselves or pleading ignorance about the group's activities.
