The United Kingdom witnessed the highest number of migrants crossing the English Channel in small boats on June 11, with authorities detecting a total of 616 individuals, according to the
British government.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has prioritized the task of curbing boat arrivals, listing it among his top five objectives. This decision comes in response to the escalating number of migrants reaching the southern coast of England, which reached a record high in 2022 with over 45,000 arrivals—an increase of 500% over the past two years.
Sunak has faced criticism from both members of his own Conservative Party and the public, who accuse him of not acting swiftly enough to address irregular migration. However, last week, the Prime Minister defended his plan, asserting that it is yielding positive results, with crossings down by 20% compared to the previous year.
