When non-resident citizens seek to purchase homes in Portugal, they primarily focus on securing housing loans in the districts of Lisbon, Faro, and Porto. According to a report for the third

quarter of 2023 by idealista/créditohabitação, "Lisbon represents the largest share of total orders, with 19.3%, followed by Faro and Porto, with 12.2% and 11.5%, respectively."

These districts also stand out for the higher purchase prices and loan amounts requested during the same period. This is largely because the prices of homes for sale are relatively higher in Lisbon, Faro, and Porto. Non-resident citizens in these areas are interested in acquiring homes with an average price exceeding 240 thousand euros. They also request housing loans with higher values, typically ranging from 179 thousand to 200 thousand euros.

The report from idealista/créditohabitação highlights a trend where non-residents tend to apply for housing credit in coastal areas, while such activity is comparatively lower in the country's interior regions. In some districts, the weight of housing loan requests is less than 1%, such as Bragança, Guarda, Portalegre, Évora, and Beja. Notably, districts like Beja, Castelo Branco, and Bragança witness the request of lower-value housing loans (less than 60 thousand euros) for homes with prices lower than 90 thousand euros.

The financing percentages vary across regions, with Bragança recording 57% and Guarda reaching 88%. Non-resident applicants for housing loans exhibit a maximum average age of 58 years in Portalegre and a minimum average age of 38 years in Bragança.
