British Queen celebrates

Former U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson was asked to leave Channel 4’s U.S. election night coverage after repeatedly promoting his new memoir, "Unleashed." Johnson, appearing as a guest

analyst on the program, continually held up his book and referenced it in his responses, despite warnings from the show’s hosts to keep the promotion to a minimum.

Co-anchor Krishnan Guru-Murthy announced Johnson’s exit less than two hours into the broadcast, saying, “Boris Johnson has been fired for banging on about his book too much.” Johnson, however, seemed undeterred, initially brushing off a reprimand by Guru-Murthy, who had urged him to “put it away” and even called his behavior “so cheap.”

Rather than comply, Johnson playfully countered, “There’s absolutely nothing you can do to stop me … I’m allowed to plug my book.” He even suggested that answers to questions about Ukraine and a potential political comeback could be found in his memoir.

Co-anchor Emily Maitlis expressed frustration, remarking, “We are not all going to read your book, so just tell us, do you want to have a political comeback … You can’t actually answer a single question.”

Unfazed by the criticism, Johnson continued to defend his actions, stating he was “blissfully engaged promoting my book ‘Unleashed,’ available in all good bookstores.”

Though once a close ally of former President Donald Trump, Johnson dismissed comparisons between himself and Trump as “complete and utter tripe.” Johnson also mentioned that he recently spoke to Trump, discussing issues like the war in Ukraine. Photo by UK Government, Wikimedia commons.
