A body has been discovered on the Greek island of Symi during the search for TV and radio presenter Dr. Michael Mosley, who went missing last Wednesday.
The 67-year-old had set off on a walk from Agios Nikolaos beach before disappearing. The body, yet to be formally identified, was found on Sunday in a rocky area near Agia Marina beach.
According to Symi's mayor, the body was located as search teams were combing the coastline with cameras. A police source informed BBC News that the deceased appeared to have been dead "for a number of days." The body was found next to a fence, about 30 meters from the beach, and would have been visible from the shore.
The PA news agency reported that the body was initially discovered by a bar manager accompanied by British journalists, after the island's mayor noticed something near the bar's fence and alerted the staff. Agia Marina bar manager Ilias Tsavaris mentioned that rescuers had been searching the area daily with helicopters.
Greek authorities had been conducting an extensive five-day search for Dr. Mosley, involving firefighters, dogs, helicopters, drones, local residents, and officers from Symi and beyond. Dr. Mosley's wife, Dr. Clare Bailey Mosley, and their four children had also joined the search efforts on the island.
Dr. Mosley, who studied medicine in London and qualified as a doctor, has worked as a presenter, documentary maker, journalist, and author for the past couple of decades. He is well-known for his TV programmes, including "Trust Me, I'm a Doctor," and BBC Radio 4's "Just One Thing" podcast. He also appeared on BBC One's "The One Show" and ITV's "This Morning" and was a columnist for the Daily Mail. Photo by HEALTHISTA TV, Wikimedia commons.
