The 16th meeting of the India-United Kingdom Joint Working Group on Counter-Terrorism took place in New Delhi on May 21, 2024.

Shri K.D. Dewal, Joint Secretary for Counter-Terrorism in India's Ministry of External Affairs, and Mr. Chris Felton, Head of the Counter Terrorism Network for Asia and Oceania for the UK Government, led their respective delegations to discuss ongoing counter-terrorism cooperation between the two nations.

Both India and the UK firmly condemned terrorism in all its forms, including cross-border terrorism, and stressed the necessity of bolstering international cooperation to combat terrorism comprehensively and sustainably, in alignment with the UN Charter and international law.

The delegations exchanged assessments of terrorist and extremist threats within their territories and regions, focusing on threats posed by globally sanctioned terrorist entities and individuals. They also discussed the use of proscribing individual terrorists and entities as a counter-terrorism measure and explored collaborative efforts in multilateral forums.

Key topics covered included countering radicalization and violent extremism, combating terrorism financing, preventing the misuse of new and emerging technologies for terrorist activities, enhancing law enforcement and judicial cooperation, sharing information, and ensuring aviation and maritime security. Both sides agreed to further strengthen and deepen their bilateral cooperation to address these shared challenges.

The 17th meeting of the India-UK Joint Working Group on Counter-Terrorism will be held in the UK at a mutually convenient date.
