British Queen celebrates

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has confirmed that British diplomats and their families have been evacuated from Sudan in a "complex and rapid" operation, with work continuing to ensure the

safety of other British nationals remaining in the country.

The evacuees were taken to an airfield outside of Khartoum to fly out of the country overnight, following fierce violence between Sudan's regular army and a paramilitary force called the Rapid Support Forces.

Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said the operation involved over 1,200 British personnel from the Air Assault Brigade, Royal Marines, and the Royal Air Force, with assistance from France and the United States. Other countries, including France, the Netherlands, and Italy, have also begun evacuating their citizens from Sudan. Foreign Minister James Cleverly stated that the government was working tirelessly to broker international support to end the bloodshed in Sudan. Photo by Shmyg, Wikimedia commons.
