British Prime Minister Keir Starmer issued a formal apology on Wednesday to the victims of the 2017 Grenfell Tower fire, which claimed the lives of 72 people.
Addressing parliament in response to the release of the public inquiry report on the disaster, Starmer said, "I want to begin by offering an apology on behalf of the British state to each and every one of you, as well as to all the families impacted by this horrific tragedy."
He continued, "This should never have happened. The country failed in its most basic responsibility: to protect you and your loved ones, the very people we are here to serve. For that, I am deeply sorry." Photo by Natalie Oxford, Wikimedia commons.
