British Queen celebrates

Tropical Storm Debby, currently impacting the US, may contribute to soaring temperatures in London, potentially reaching the mid-30s°C next week, according to forecasters.

The storm has already caused significant rainfall in parts of the US, leading to "potentially historic rainfalls" in coastal Georgia and South Carolina. The UK’s Met Office suggests that this weather system could influence conditions in the UK, particularly by bringing temperatures around 30°C or even higher to certain areas.

Nick Silkstone, Deputy Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office, explained to Sky News that Debby’s impact on the North American jet stream could cause it to strengthen and shift further south, indirectly affecting the UK. This shift could lead to much warmer and more humid weather in London, with temperatures expected to rise to around 29°C by Sunday, and possibly higher in the following days.

However, this warm weather is not expected to affect the entire UK. The far northwest is likely to remain cooler with sunny spells and occasional showers, while the southeastern half of the UK could experience hot conditions, possibly accompanied by thunderstorms.

In the US, the aftermath of Storm Debby has been severe, with at least six deaths reported in Florida and Georgia. The storm is expected to continue affecting the southeastern and mid-Atlantic coasts for several more days. Photo by William M. Connolley at the English-language Wikipedia.
