British Queen celebrates

A recent Opinium opinion poll suggests that the British opposition Labour Party has increased its lead over Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's ruling Conservative Party from 14 to 16 points.

Conducted ahead of the anticipated national election in 2024, the poll indicates that Labour is projected to secure 42% of the vote, while the Conservatives are at 27%.

Compared to Opinium's previous poll two weeks ago, where Labour had a 14-point lead, the latest survey reflects a further widening of the gap.

The poll, based on responses from 2,060 UK adults surveyed between January 23 and January 26, highlights that two-thirds of voters consider the health service to be the most crucial issue facing the UK. The economy and immigration follow as the next significant concerns.

In a separate YouGov opinion poll published last week in the Telegraph newspaper, the Conservatives were reportedly headed for an electoral defeat similar to their substantial loss to Labour in 1997.
