British Queen celebrates

Rishi Sunak has come under police scrutiny following remarks he made about Nicola Sturgeon during his speech at the Tory Party conference. In his address to the Conservatives in Manchester,

the prime minister cracked a joke about the former first minister.

However, Mr. Sunak's comments have led to him being reported to Police Scotland, as Nicola Sturgeon is currently the subject of an ongoing police investigation. Ms. Sturgeon, who stepped down from her government role in February, was arrested and questioned by police in June as part of an investigation into the SNP's finances. She was subsequently released without charge and has denied any wrongdoing.

Chris McEleny, the general secretary of the rival pro-independence Alba Party, has reported Mr. Sunak to the police, accusing him of contempt of court for commenting on and making assumptions about an active Police Scotland investigation.

Mr. McEleny expressed concern that the prime minister's comments could interfere with Operation Branchform, a significant investigation into matters of great importance to the people of Scotland. He emphasized the need for the investigation to proceed without interference from Rishi Sunak.

During his conference speech, Mr. Sunak mentioned the importance of the union of nations, including England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. He stated that the union was currently stronger than it had been in a quarter of a century, while also remarking on the retreat of separatist forces across the country.

The arrests of SNP treasurer Colin Beattie and former party chief executive Peter Murrell, who is also Nicola Sturgeon's husband, preceded Ms. Sturgeon's arrest. All three individuals were later released without charge, and police had conducted searches at the SNP headquarters and Ms. Sturgeon and Mr. Murrell's residence as part of the investigation.
