British Queen celebrates

The leader of the Welsh nationalist party Plaid Cymru, Adam Price, has resigned from his position due to a lack of support from his colleagues following a report that

revealed a culture of sexual harassment, bullying, and discrimination within the party. In his resignation letter, Price stated that he felt morally obligated to step down from his role as leader of the party after receiving the report last month. However, some of his colleagues advised him that this could be an "unhelpful distraction."

Price, who had held the leadership position since 2018, stated that he no longer had the united support of his colleagues to continue as the leader. The report, which was conducted by a former member of the National Assembly for Wales, revealed that Plaid Cymru had failed to implement a zero-tolerance approach to sexual harassment, and that staff and elected members had reported instances of harassment, bullying, and discrimination.

Price expressed disappointment that the report's findings were in contrast to the independent Wales that he and his colleagues had been championing. Plaid Cymru is the third-largest party in the Welsh Parliament, the Senedd, which has the power to make laws in Wales.

The announcement of Price's resignation comes after the resignation of Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon in February, who was the leader of Scotland's pro-independence Scottish National Party. Plaid Cymru's National Executive Committee has stated that it will invite nominations for an interim leader on Thursday, which will be subject to ratification by the party's National Council on Saturday. The party has also said that it will publish a timetable outlining the process for electing a permanent leader at the earliest opportunity. Photo by Cwmcafit, Wikimedia commons.
