Oil giant Shell announced a profit of £7.6 billion ($10.4 billion) for Q1 2023, representing a 5.7% increase on the previous year and nearly £1.4 billion ($1.9 billion) more than experts had
predicted. The results follow BP's announcement earlier in the week of better than expected Q1 figures.
Greenpeace and campaign group Global Witness called for tougher action from the UK government against the so-called "Big Oil" companies. The TUC criticised Shell for making large profits while UK households have struggled to pay energy bills.
