Following Colin Beattie's resignation as SNP treasurer due to an investigation into the party's finances, MP Stuart McDonald has been appointed as his successor by the
party's National Executive Committee (NEC).
McDonald, a former lawyer and currently the party's justice and immigration spokesman, will hold the position until the next annual conference. The new treasurer's main task will be appointing auditors, after Johnston Carmichael, which worked with the SNP for over a decade, resigned in September.
The party's accounts are due to be filed to the Electoral Commission in July. McDonald expressed his commitment to the role and helping the party move forward under the leadership of Humza Yousaf. SNP business convener Kirsten Oswald MP praised McDonald's appointment, stating he was "widely respected" among the party. Joanna Cherry MP, who has previously criticised the SNP's governance, also welcomed McDonald's appointment. Photo by Richard Townshend, Wikimedia commons.
