British Queen celebrates

The recent incidents of looting and disruption orchestrated through social media have drawn strong criticism from Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who labeled the actions as "appalling" and

"unacceptable."

These remarks come in response to the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners (APCC) urging parents to take responsibility for their children's involvement in criminal activities sparked by social media crazes.

The disorder unfolded in London's Oxford Street last week after rumors circulated online.

Rishi Sunak expressed his support for the legal repercussions to be faced by those involved, emphasizing the necessity of upholding the law.

Nine individuals were arrested following the events on August 9, initiated by online videos urging people to join and cause chaos.

The situation led to the temporary closure of West End stores and the locking of customers inside, influenced by a social media trend encouraging participation in an "Oxford Street JD robbery."

While on holiday in the US at the time, Mr. Sunak described the events as "appalling" and emphasized that criminal behavior and damage are entirely unacceptable within society.

In addition to the Oxford Street incident, anti-social behavior was encouraged through online posts in Southend, leading to dispersal orders.

Donna Jones, the PCC for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and chair of the APCC, expressed concern about the societal breakdown reflected in such organized social media-driven incidents.

She called attention to the worrisome trend of social media crazes and called for intervention by social media companies.

Jones stressed the need for accountability, suggesting that parents may be required to pay fines for the actions of their children under 16 or under 18 if in full-time education.

She highlighted another concerning trend involving teenagers in Southampton being prompted to take paracetamol, leading to hospital admissions.

TikTok was searched for evidence of a paracetamol challenge in Southampton but yielded no results. TikTok responded, stating that the claims were unsubstantiated and that they maintain a zero-tolerance policy for content encouraging criminal activities.

Jones underscored the detrimental impact of such actions on public resources and called on TikTok to investigate its role in harmful challenges and gatherings.

TikTok maintained its commitment to safety and cooperation with law enforcement in removing inappropriate content.
