British Queen celebrates

The UK Jewish Film Festival is set to be held in Manchester next month and will showcase numerous UK premieres and special events. The festival will commence on November 9 with a gala

screening of the 2022 Italian film "The Shadow of the Day" at Cineworld Didsbury and run until November 23, with additional screenings at HOME in the city center and the Curzon Knutsford.

One of the highlights will be the UK premiere of "Less Than Kosher" at HOME on November 11, a film that explores the story of a self-proclaimed 'Bad Jew' working at a synagogue, drawing comparisons to "Shiva Baby" and "A Star is Born."

Another notable film, "Savoy," a 2002 Israeli production, will make its UK premiere at the Curzon Knutsford on November 12. It recreates the events of a night in March 1975 when eight Palestinian terrorists took control of the Savoy Hotel in Tel Aviv, holding guests and staff hostage.

The festival will also feature several other UK premieres, including "March 1968," "The Camera of Doctor Morris," "The Consultant: The Story of Arthur J. Finkelstein," and "The Narrow Bridge," a 2022 documentary from Australia about the grassroots movement of Israeli and Palestinian Bereaved Families, which will screen at Curzon Knutsford on November 16.

Additionally, on November 20, "British-Jewish Life on Film" will be showcased at HOME, featuring seven award-winning shorts from emerging filmmakers, including the world premiere of "The Doll’s House" and "The Soldier on Smithdown Road," along with the UK premiere of "The Last Cowboy in Salford," a film about a Jewish teenager in Manchester who believes he's a modern-day cowboy.

The festival will conclude on November 23 at Curzon Knutsford with the screening of "Children of Nobody," a 1992 Israeli film directed by Erez Tadmor, which focuses on a compassionate foster mother running a shelter for at-risk youth in a rapidly gentrifying area.

The UK Jewish Film Festival, established in 1997, draws more than 15,000 attendees each year at its Geneva festival and hosts over 450 yearly screenings and previews across the UK. The event is organized by UK Jewish Film, dedicated to creating an environment where Jewish cinema entertains, educates, and enlightens diverse audiences in the UK and worldwide.

Tickets for all screenings and events are now available for purchase on the UK Jewish Film Festival website.
