British Queen celebrates

British shoppers felt a renewed squeeze on their budgets last month as grocery price inflation edged up, according to industry data released on Tuesday.

Research from market analyst Kantar revealed that annual grocery price inflation reached 2.3% in the four weeks to November 3, up from 2.0% in the prior four-week period.

The report highlighted that prices are climbing fastest in categories like chilled soft drinks and chocolate confectionery, while dropping most in items like toothbrushes, household paper products, and sparkling wine.

Last month, official data indicated that overall UK inflation had eased to 1.7% in September, with data for October due to be published on November 20.

UK supermarkets have warned that tax increases introduced in last month’s government budget could further fuel inflation.

Kantar noted that grocery sales rose by 2.0% year-on-year over the four-week period, reaching £11.6 billion ($14.9 billion)—the highest monthly sales figure this year. Photo by  Jonathan Billinger, Wikimedia commons.
