British Queen celebrates

Motorola has been denied permission to appeal a ruling by the UK's antitrust regulator, which found the company was earning "supernormal" profits from its contract to provide communications

for Britain's emergency services.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced on Friday that the Court of Appeal had unanimously rejected Motorola’s request to challenge the findings.

In July 2023, the CMA imposed a price cap on Motorola, reducing charges to levels expected in a competitive market. This measure is estimated to cut around £200 million ($248 million) in annual costs.

Motorola previously attempted to overturn the CMA’s decision at a tribunal in 2023 but was unsuccessful.

CMA Executive Director George Lusty welcomed the Court of Appeal’s ruling, emphasizing its significance.

“The Court’s judgment today ensures our price cap remains in place, limiting how much Motorola can charge emergency services for using its Airwave Network,” Lusty said in a statement.
