British Queen celebrates

EasyJet, the largest airline in the UK, has announced the cancellation of 2% of its summer flight schedule, affecting approximately 180,000 customers. The airline attributed the cancellations to

air traffic control challenges across Europe.

The travel industry is on high alert for potential disruptions this summer, following the cancellations and chaos experienced last year due to a shortage of staff in the industry after the pandemic-induced downturn. Air traffic control issues are expected to be a major concern this season, as warned by Eurocontrol, the organization responsible for managing European airspace.

EasyJet stated on Monday that by making adjustments to its schedule now, it could prevent last-minute cancellations, which are more costly and inconvenient for passengers. While the airline assured that it has sufficient crew and pilots, concerns over air traffic conditions have led to the cancellation of 1,700 flights, primarily from its main hub at London's Gatwick airport, out of the 90,000 scheduled for the remainder of July and August.

EasyJet emphasized that 95% of the affected passengers have already been rebooked on alternative flights, as the airline has primarily consolidated flights with multiple frequencies to accommodate the changes.

The airspace in Europe has been constrained due to the conflict in Ukraine, resulting in reduced capacity for aircraft. Additionally, staffing issues at certain air control locations and industrial action have caused bottlenecks, increasing the likelihood of last-minute cancellations.

"We apologize for any inconvenience caused," stated easyJet in a released statement.
