Despite the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic, Zurich Airport has made a notable recovery, particularly evident during the festive season. Almost 90,000 passengers passed

through the airport on Friday, surpassing pre-pandemic records.

As reported by a Zurich Airport spokesperson to the Keystone-SDA news agency, nearly 90,000 travelers utilized the airport facilities on Friday. While the precise figure wasn't disclosed, it was confirmed that this figure exceeded the 2019 numbers when approximately 85,000 passengers traveled through Zurich Airport.

The days of December 22 and 23 are renowned for their peak passenger traffic, especially during the Christmas period, along with the period just after New Year's Day for return travel.

In 2020, Zurich-Kloten Airport experienced a substantial decline in passenger numbers due to the onset of the pandemic. During the days leading up to Christmas that year, only 17,000 passengers were recorded. However, a year later, this number doubled to 34,000. Comparatively, the average daily passenger count during the holiday period between December 23 and January 2 a year ago stood at 65,000.

This resurgence in passenger numbers demonstrates a positive trend for Zurich Airport, showcasing a rebound in air travel following the pandemic-induced downturn. Photo by Ank Kumar, Wikimedia commons.
