Donald Trump and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban are scheduled to meet on Thursday at the Republican presidential candidate's residence in Florida, according
to three sources familiar with the matter.
The exact agenda for the meeting has not been fully disclosed, although one of the sources indicated that the ongoing conflict in Ukraine is likely to be a key topic of discussion.
Orban, a longtime ally of Trump, recently made unexpected visits to Kyiv, Moscow, and Beijing, presenting himself as a mediator for peace. His meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow drew criticism from some NATO allies of Budapest, who argued that the visit legitimized Putin's claims over Ukrainian territories seized since Russia's invasion in 2022.
Currently attending a NATO summit in Washington, Orban's upcoming meeting with Trump was initially reported by Bloomberg. The Hungarian embassy in Washington declined to comment on the planned meeting.
In recent months, various foreign officials have actively sought meetings with Trump and his top advisers to understand his potential foreign policy direction if he defeats Democratic President Joe Biden in the upcoming November 5 election. Polls indicate Trump is widening his lead over Biden.
One of Trump's advisers, Keith Kellogg, has engaged with several senior foreign officials during the NATO summit, as reported by Reuters earlier this week.
