Prince William is offering budget holiday cottage rentals at prices cheaper than a Travelodge room. The Prince of Wales rents out several holiday homes through his £1 billion Duchy of Cornwall
estate in the UK. In light of families facing affordability challenges for summer holidays, the prices of the five-star properties have been reduced, with numerous deals now available. The aim is to fully book up the properties for August and September.
One of the offerings includes a week's stay in a Cornish cottage for just £980 for four people, equivalent to £35 per person per night, which is more economical than a budget Travelodge hotel. The properties available for rent include historic manors and secluded country cottages in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Some of the properties, such as Diggery, Staniforth, and Hext in Lostwithiel, have received price reductions.
The Duchy Estate, which is 685 years old, owns 0.2% of the UK's land and also supports Prince William and his wife Kate's official duties. Among the holiday properties, the nine-bed Restormel Manor in the Fowey Valley stands out, boasting an indoor heated pool, spa, tennis court, and a fishing license for the local river. The price for the last week in August has been reduced by £2,328, making it cost £517 per person for the stay, or £73 per night.
As families opt for domestic vacations due to the cost of living crisis, the Prince's decision to cut prices is likely to attract more guests. The Duchy of Cornwall was approached for comment on the price reductions. Photo by The Big Lunch, Wikimedia commons.
