British Queen celebrates

UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, has rejected complaints from the Welsh government regarding funding. During a visit to Wrexham, Sunak stated that the UK government has

already provided "record levels" of funding to Welsh ministers. However, ministers in Cardiff argue that inflation has led to a shortfall of £900 million, preventing them from funding free school meals for eligible children during the summer holidays. The Welsh government spokesperson suggested that the Prime Minister might be poorly informed about the situation.

Sunak emphasized that how the Welsh government allocates and manages its funds is their own responsibility. The issue of additional funding to support the policy was not addressed directly. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister expressed commitment to the UK's steel industry, particularly in Wales.

However, he declined to comment on the status of negotiations with Tata Steel UK regarding public subsidies for the decarbonization of its Port Talbot steelworks. Similarly, he refrained from speculating on the prospects of a new Wylfa nuclear power station in Anglesey, stating that site selection and technology evaluation are ongoing.
