Gerwyn Williams, a 35-year-old Wales fan from Penygroes in Gwynedd, recounted a harrowing experience of being held at gunpoint by police in Armenia, describing a distressing arrest and

subsequent detention.

Williams stated that he was arrested "for no reason at all" while walking home with friends the night before Wales' European qualifier against Armenia. He explained how police officers aggressively apprehended him, assaulted him, handcuffed him, and forced him into a police van.

Recalling the detention, Williams mentioned being held for 12 hours without food or water. He detailed the disconcerting environment, indicating that they were confined to rooms within the building, separated, and subject to intimidation by police officers who were unresponsive and intimidating.

The distress escalated when a police officer brandished a firearm, heightening their fear and prompting thoughts of escape. Williams highlighted the lack of communication from authorities and the intimidating responses when they inquired about the reason for their detention.

Efforts to seek assistance from the FAW (Football Association of Wales) and the Foreign Office reportedly faced resistance and provided minimal support, adding to their sense of vulnerability and insecurity.

Williams described the apprehension as a traumatic ordeal that prompted him to leave Armenia for safety reasons, fearing a potential recurrence of such incidents and prioritizing personal safety.
