SpaceX's Starlink has reached a major milestone of 1.5 million global subscribers for its satellite-powered internet service. The company had achieved its first million

customers just five months ago. Starlink began in 2015, but it was not until 2019 that SpaceX started deploying low-orbit satellites to power the internet service.

The company has plans to orbit 12,000 satellites, which would provide global coverage. Currently, the service costs $120 per month for speeds up to 100Mbps, with a one-time hardware fee of $599.

Starlink is available in North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the Philippines, and most of South America.

The company aims to expand to some African countries, including Angola, Zambia, Tanzania, and Mozambique, in 2023, pending regulatory approval in India. Starlink's satellite internet has also been used on commercial flights and large vehicles such as RVs and campers.

Earlier this year, it launched a $200 per month global roaming service. Photo by Official SpaceX Photos, Wikimedia commons.
