British Queen celebrates

In celebration of her advocacy for literacy and education, Her Majesty The Queen, Patron of the National Literacy Trust, graced Moreland Primary School with her presence to inaugurate their

new Coronation Library. This special occasion marks the unveiling of the 50th Coronation Library, a project initiated by the National Literacy Trust over the past year in honor of the Coronation.

The Coronation Libraries initiative underscores Her Majesty's unwavering support for literacy and the significance of primary school libraries. Collaborating with Libraries for Primaries, the National Literacy Trust has transformed 50 primary school libraries and reading spaces across the UK since 2023, with Moreland Primary School being privileged to host the 50th library inaugurated by Her Majesty.

Each of the 50 Libraries is equipped with a curated set of 23 books, selected by children from diverse backgrounds nationwide, adorned with a commemorative bookplate featuring the Coronation emblem. Additionally, a commemorative plaque is prominently displayed in each library, symbolizing the enduring legacy of literacy and education.

The National Literacy Trust is dedicated to empowering individuals of all ages with the essential literacy skills necessary for success. Through fostering reading, writing, speaking, and listening abilities, the Trust empowers individuals to seize opportunities and shape their futures positively.

With a rich history spanning over three decades, the National Literacy Trust continues to provide invaluable support to schools, families, and communities, facilitating transformative changes and empowering individuals to script their own narratives.

The inauguration of the Coronation Library at Moreland Primary School also marks a significant milestone as the 1000th primary school library to be established under the National Literacy Trust's Libraries for Primaries campaign. This campaign aims to establish libraries in primary schools across the UK, particularly in areas where literacy levels are low, fostering a love for reading and learning from a young age.

Having inaugurated the first Coronation library at Shirehampton Primary School in Bristol in May 2023, Her Majesty continues to champion literacy and education initiatives across the nation. During her visit to Moreland Primary School, The Queen engaged in an interactive storytelling session with young librarians from primary schools across the city. She then officially opened the new library and had the pleasure of listening to a poem titled "One Thousand Libraries," penned by Children’s Laureate, Joseph Coelho, specially crafted for the occasion.
