British Queen celebrates

Tory MP Tobias Ellwood has stepped down from his position as chair of a Commons committee following criticism of his remarks regarding Afghanistan. In July, he faced

backlash for stating that the country had seen improvements under the Taliban's rule. Facing a potential vote of no confidence from fellow MPs on the defence select committee, Ellwood chose to resign from his role.

Initially defending his comments, he later apologized, acknowledging that he had made a mistake with his remarks, which he had shared on social media during a visit to Helmand province. Photo by Chris McAndrew, Wikimedia commons.
