British Queen celebrates

In a candid and emotional interview with BBC News, Phillip Schofield revealed that he believes his career is over following his affair with a young male colleague.

After evading paparazzi outside his home, Schofield sat down with Amol Rajan to share his side of the story.

Schofield admitted that he has "lost everything" and does not foresee a future for his career. He clarified that he and his former colleague were "not boyfriends" and had only engaged in five or six romantic encounters over a few months. Schofield expressed regret for his actions, calling the affair a "grave error" and acknowledging that he should not have pursued it.

During the interview, Schofield appeared worn out and distressed, speaking softly as he expressed his deep remorse. Questions have been raised about ITV's handling of the situation, the extent of the network's knowledge about the affair, and the thoroughness of their internal investigation.

Reflecting on the controversy, Schofield expressed doubts about returning to television. "I have to talk about television in the past tense, which breaks my heart," he lamented. "I have lost everything."

Looking ahead, Schofield expressed a sense of bleakness, sadness, regret, remorse, and guilt. He confessed that he had made a serious mistake and had consistently lied about it. Schofield took responsibility for his actions, acknowledging that he was older and should have known better. While he characterized the affair as consensual, he admitted that it was his fault.

During the interview, Rajan highlighted that the young male colleague involved in the affair has a right to privacy under Article Eight of the Human Rights Act. The colleague was not present to provide his account of events.

Schofield shared further details about the affair, including the fact that the colleague was 20 years old when their sexual contact began. He also revealed that he had experienced suicidal thoughts and expressed gratitude for his daughters, who have supported him unwaveringly since news of the affair broke.

Schofield addressed the issue of homophobia, noting that it played a role in the disapproval of their relationship. He remarked, "If it was male-female, then it wouldn't be such a scandal." While he understood people's concerns about a potential abuse of power, he stated that it did not feel that way at the time.

Schofield paid tribute to his daughters, highlighting their crucial role in helping him through the recent challenging period. "Last week, if my daughters hadn't been there, I wouldn't be here," he revealed. "They've been by my side every moment because they're scared to let me out of their sight."
