British Queen celebrates

Artur Ekert, a Polish-born professor at Oxford University, has been awarded the Milner Award by the British Royal Society. This recognition is for his groundbreaking

contributions to the fields of quantum communication and computation. Merton College, affiliated with Oxford University, highlights that Ekert's work has expanded quantum information science from an academic niche to a vibrant, interdisciplinary field with industrial significance.

Ekert, who was born in Wrocław, Poland, in 1961, pursued his physics studies at Jagiellonian University in Kraków and the University of Oxford. His research has uncovered the connections between cryptography and the fundamentals of quantum theory, leading to significant advancements in understanding and utilizing nature, particularly in the realm of information.

The Milner Award, named in honor of the pioneering computer scientist Prof. Robin Milner (1934-2010), acknowledges Ekert's remarkable contributions to the field.

In response to receiving the award, Ekert expressed his excitement about the future developments that quantum theory will unveil, further enriching our comprehension of the world. Photo by The Royal Society, Wikimedia commons.
